Here in a small grass patch on one side of the forecourt of the main hall of Sanssouci is the final resting place of Frederick the Great. He had stated in his will that he wanted to be interred here at his favorite retreat from palace life. However after his death his successors felt that the comparatively small Sanssouci was not worthy of as famous a king as Frederick the Great. He was originally buried in Berlin, but finally his remains were interred here as he had desired.
