The morning after our stop at the Hofbräuhaus, we visited the beautiful Nymphenburg Palace, one of the many palaces of the Wittlesbach family which ruled bavaria for centuries until the end of the first World War, when Germany became a (short-lived) republic. Some of the Wittelsbachs are still around and our guide told us that although most of this palace is open to the public as a state museum, some parts of it are still used as a residence for some of the remaining Wittelsbachs.
Here are some good sites with more information on the history of Nymphenburg, as well as some pictures of its interior decor.
