Lübeck was also the home of the famous German authors Thomas and Heinrich Mann. This building belonged to them and has been immortalized as the "Buddenbrookhaus", named after the Buddenbrook family of Thomas Mann's works, a wealthy aristocratic family described by our tour guide as like "a predeceesor of the family from Dynasty".
