Max and his car! This is my dad, standing next to a "Smart Car". We saw these all over the place on our trip. They're pretty neat. They're short enough that two of them can fit side-by-side facing in to a normal parking space. They're very fuel efficient and make a lot of sense for driving in somewhat crowded city conditions with narrow streets. The car is manufactured by a partnership of Mercedes-Benz and Swatch (yes, the Swiss watch company)! Most amusing of all, in keeping with the Swatch design aesthetic, we saw glass towers around several places in Germany along the highway where you could drive your Smartcar in with a body of one color, and they would switch it out with a body of any other color you wanted! These towers were filled with different color Smart Cars, looking like some kind of crazy giant toy vending machine.

We were especially amused by this car because it had the logo of the rental company on it, the first part of which was "Max" which is my father's name.
