Continuing down Unter den Linden, one comes across the "Neue Wache" Guard House, a principal structure of Berlin classicism built by K. F. Schinkel from 1816-18 for the Prussian Royal Guards. However its military past is behind it, as it now is used as the "Memorial for the Victims of Fascism and Militarism". The haunting memorial interior is on the next page.
